Custom 3D printing FAQ

Understand how Printii turns text, photos, and 3D files into configurable physical prints—and when a project needs more than an instant quote.

Creating and quoting

What is custom 3D printing?

Custom 3D printing produces an object from a digital model instead of selecting a fixed, mass-produced item. With Printii, you can start from text, an image, or a supported 3D model, then configure available size, material, color, finish, and quantity before ordering.

Can I turn text into a toy or custom figure?

You can describe a character, keepsake, display figure, prop concept, or other object and use Printii’s text-to-model workflow to create a printable starting point. Review the generated geometry carefully. Items intended for children require age-appropriate design, materials, testing, labeling, and legal compliance; a generated model is not automatically a certified toy.

Can I turn an image or photo into a 3D model?

Yes. Upload an image and describe what the finished object should become. The result is a generated model, not an exact scan, so details, proportions, printability, and likeness should be reviewed before ordering.

How does an instant quote for a custom 3D print work?

Printii submits the printable model geometry and selected configuration for current production pricing. Dimensions, material, finish, color, quantity, production availability, and shipping can affect the estimate. A quote can change when those inputs change.

Why might a project need manual review?

Very large parts, tight tolerances, thin walls, assemblies, electronics, safety-critical uses, regulated applications, unusual materials, or models with uncertain printability can require a production review instead of an automatic price.

Prototype and manufacturing workflows

What does DDM mean?

DDM commonly means direct digital manufacturing: using a digital design to guide computer-controlled production of a physical object. Additive manufacturing, including 3D printing, is one way to do this. Printii connects model intake, configuration, quoting, production checks, and fulfillment.

Can I quote several prototype files together?

Yes. The Printii prototype workspace lets you add multiple supported model files and assign a separate material, size, quantity, and production note to each. Each configuration is priced, and successful items can be grouped into one Printii cart.

Can different files use different materials?

Yes. Each file in a prototype batch can have its own available material configuration. Because material choices can affect production availability and price, each distinct part is quoted independently before the batch is assembled for checkout.

Does Printii guarantee engineering tolerances?

No tolerance should be assumed from an online quote alone. State the required tolerance, fit, mating surfaces, orientation, inspection, and intended use in the production notes. Printii must confirm specialized requirements before they become part of an accepted production order.

Application-specific questions

Can Printii make custom home fixtures and home goods?

Printii can evaluate knobs, organizers, decorative covers, planters, holders, replacement-fit concepts, and other home goods. Parts involving structural loads, heat, food contact, drinking water, electricity, fire safety, or building-code requirements need appropriate design and professional review.

Can Printii make anatomical models, orthotics, or medical models?

More precise terminology includes anatomical visualization models, training models, fit-check models, assistive-device prototypes, and orthotic prototypes. Printii can evaluate non-clinical prototypes and educational models. Printii does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or regulatory certification. Patient-contacting, diagnostic, implantable, load-bearing, or clinical uses require qualified professional oversight and appropriately validated materials and processes.

Can Printii combine a 3D print with an LED, RC, or electronics kit?

The linked-project estimator records the model and kit sources, print subtotal, kit cost, shipping, labor, and contingency. It does not guess missing prices or guarantee compatibility. Rights, inventory, electrical safety, assembly requirements, and component fit must be reviewed before production.

Who is responsible for rights to an uploaded or linked model?

You must own the model or have permission to manufacture it. Do not upload or link content that infringes copyright, trademark, patent, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
